The products shown on this site represent the BiS Valves standard range, which account for a small proportion of the total products on offer. With over 30 years experience supplying valves into specialist markets, such as oil and gas, power generation, the chemical industry and water hydraulics, a suitable product is often available from our back catalogue. And when no product exists, the BiS engineering team can often design the perfect valve for your application.
Catalogue products are primarily designed in stainless steel, for use with less corrosive fluids, such as water glycol or mineral oil. When more corrosive fluids are in use, such as plain water, salt water, some injection chemicals or any corrosive process fluid, the factory should be contacted for advice. In many cases, the standard valve will be suitable, and if not, it is usually possible to alter materials to suit the fluid. This is also the case when compliance with NACE MR01-75 is required. BiS have experience in manufacturing with most common, and many exotic materials, and have manufactured valves from super duplex, monel, inconel, hastelloy and titanium.
Standard products are designed for use in topside applications, but BiS have wide experience of design for subsea applications. In many cases, standard products may be used subsea if the internal pressure can be kept above ambient. However, some valves do contain materials that would not survive long term subsea, and it is often preferable to have the capability of allowing external pressure to rise above internal in case it occurs due to some unforeseen circumstance. Hence, it is recommended that the factory is informed if subsea operation is required, such that the most suitable product may be offered.
Prior to despatch, all products are tested. The exact test differs by product, but typically will include a proof test to 1.5 times the rated maximum working pressure, and function and leakage tests. Test rigs are available with various working mediums, including mineral oil, various water glycols, demineralised water and nitrogen. Where possible, the product will be tested on the fluid that will be used by the end user, but this is not always possible and cannot be guaranteed.
All products are designed to be as robust as possible in the extreme environments in which they are used. However, servicing may be necessary from time to time, and BiS products are designed with this in mind. Seal kits and repair kits, which contain the components most likely to become worn or damaged, are available for most products. As with any hydraulic product, the useful life of a valve may be optimised by ensuring that the working fluid is kept free of contamination at all times. This is particularly important where soft seats are fitted to a valve, which can easily become damaged by hard particles crossing the seat edge.
The sales and engineering teams at BiS Valves strive to ensure that the customer always receives the most appropriate valve for their application. Whenever making an enquiry, please provide as much information as possible, particularly relating to any fluids or gas in use, working pressures and flow rates, operating duty and the working environment, including ambient pressures when subsea, and working temperatures. Whilst BiS Valves take every care with product selection, please note that final approval for use of any product is the responsibility of the end user, having considered all design factors, and if necessary, having proven suitability for use through testing.
